A very wise woman and financial guru recently mentioned to me that in order for your business to succeed, you should be investing at least 30% of your revenue into marketing your business. Now I think for many people in the early stages of their crafts business, spending that much money on marketing can seem scary. (Not to mention confusing if you aren’t really making a profit.)
But I want to let you in on a little secret…
You don’t have to spend that much money on marketing if you’re willing to invest the time.
There are plenty of free or low cost opportunities out there to promote your business, but they do require some effort.
How much effort?
Well, I think a good rule of thumb is to spend at least 30% (or about a third) of the time you’re spending on your business doing marketing activities.
Now, I realize for some of you this might require a major shift in the way you think about your business. If you can’t imagine spending less time doing the tasks you’re already doing, then it might mean spending more time on your business to reach that level of marketing. Or it might mean shifting around the way you spend your time now. And for some, it might mean spending your time on more meaningful and effective marketing activities.
Regardless, if you want your business to grow, (and you don’t have a lot of money to invent) you’ve got to put in the time.
Now some of you may be thinking, “Ok, I get it, I need to spend more time marketing. But marketing how? Doing what?”
Well that’s where I can help. I’m excited to announce that registration is officially open for the next session of the Marketing for Makers e-course.
The class starts on January 10th, and for 12 weeks I’ll be sharing everything I know about marketing your business. By the end of the course, you’ll feel confident in knowing which marketing activities you should be spending your time on.
So if you’re interested in learning more about how to market your business, head over to marketingformakers.com for more information and to register for the class.
But don’t wait, because space is limited! (And over half the slots have already been snagged by my pre-launch mailing list.)
I’ve just signed up for your Marketing for Makers e-course, and I’m looking forward to it. I really like your blog. Thanks for sharing all the useful information. You’re doing a great job 🙂
