video inspiration Monday

As part of the Crafting an MBA video challenge, I thought I’d highlight some videos I love from designers, makers, and craftspeople who are promoting their businesses.

I’m a huge fan of Po Campo. I mean, what’s not to love about beautiful, durable bags that can also clip to your bike? But I also love the way that they use video to demonstrate all the ways you can use their products. This is information that would be difficult to articulate fully using just text and pictures – a great opportunity for video!  You can check out more great examples of product demos on the Po Campo YouTube channel.

After hearing about the video challenge, a few of you expressed some concern about putting yourselves on camera.  I’ve actually got a video coming later this week that addresses that very issue, but in the mean time, just because you’re totally camera shy doesn’t mean you can’t participate in the challenge.  Check out this beautiful stop motion video by Laura Baillie Designs showcasing the inspiration behind her jewelry line:

Two more videos worth checking out:

Jahje Ives of Baby Jives made this video showcasing her new spring collection of mobiles.   Video is a great tool for products like mobiles where so much of their appeal is in the way they move.

Chrystal of Chrystalyn Jewelry showcases how to create various hairstyles with her hair pieces.  Giving your audience tips and tricks to help them use your products better can be a great way to highlight your products in a way that doesn’t make you feel like a slimy sales person!

And finally, I’m participating in the challenge as well.  (After all, it started out of my own desire to shoot more video for my business.)  I created the following video to make my about page more engaging.

Hopefully these inspire you to go out and create some videos of your own!  And don’t forget to upload them to YouTube with the tag “craftMBA” – not only could you win a Sony Bloggie video camera, but your video could even be featured here on Crafting an MBA!

  1. Hey Megan – I think this is a really cool series and look forward to the rest of it. I just started in with video by interviewing DIY bloggers for MakeIsTheNewBuy.com. (I’m using blip.tv so I can’t tag them on YouTube, though.) Hope lots of people take you up on the challenge.

  2. Megan, thank you for this! One of my goals has been exactly what you describe. I tagged my video…

  3. Have always been curious about video posts, love this series and can’t wait to learn more. Very keen to see the next post on editing.

Love your About Me video. Watched it from your jewellery site and thought it rocked. It really does add so much to the site. Very cool.
