You might have noticed a little (ok, big) change on the site today.
Crafting an MBA has a new name, and a new URL. Crafting an MBA is now Designing an MBA.
I’m sure many of you are wondering why the name change. First, let me assure you that the primary content on this site will not change. I’m still committed to sharing business thinking (and education) for creative entrepreneurs. (And all the old links and posts are still here, archived on the new site!)
But one of the things I’ve realized lately is that the title of Crafting an MBA doesn’t truly reflect what it is I’m trying to do.
My definition of craft isn’t the definition of craft that most people have.
And I’m not in the business of trying to change peoples’ definition. I’m in the business of business education. (Say that five times fast!)
This doesn’t mean that I don’t still love craft. I have a strong appreciation for craft. You don’t get two degrees in craft and not feel an affinity for it. I appreciate the history and the legacy of what I do.
However, for the majority of people (though not necessarily those reading this site) craft = hobby.
And for me, this site was never about hobbies. It’s about creating products as a professional pursuit regardless of your background. It’s about building a viable, profitable, sustainable business around your creative passions.
Ultimately, I felt that the name Crafting an MBA was limiting the audience I was meant to serve. There are so many creative individuals out there who need some serious business thinking, but for whom the word craft just doesn’t resonate. My goal is to serve them while I continue serving you, and the new name helps me do that.
I’ve been truly blessed to have your support and encouragement over the last two years of Crafting an MBA, and I hope you’ll continue to support me as I make the transition to Designing an MBA. I’ve got some great new things in store for you!
best,
megan
I love your content. You have to do what you have to do for your business. As long as your content remains relevant to me, I will continue to read. You have great information and have taught me so much that can be applied to ANY business. Be Blessed and thanks for the great info. Keep it coming!
I love the new name, it reinforces the professional-ness that you exude!
I think it is an excellent decision! Totally makes sense. 🙂
congratulations, megan, on the big small name change — I think it’s great!!
Thanks for the name change! For me, it now makes me feel that my business is more inclusive of what you have to offer bc even though I make my own bath & beauty and skin care products, I don’t want it to be seen as a “out of your momma’s kitchen” type products bc that’s not the overall vision for the company.
I like the change, too, but I’d like the content either way.
I like the name change – I know a name change can be hard on a business but I think you’ve earned enough of our loyalty with your great content and help/advice that your readers will stick no matter what you call it – I hope the new name helps you reach even more readers.
I am so happy for your web & business model evolve-ment and upgrading your business name; I so look forward to seeing what’s next up your sleeves…
Your insightfulness in selecting business tools and business ideas you have already shared with so many of us have been incredibly useful – Congrats Megan!
Great name and congrats on your re-launch! This totally makes sense 🙂
Congrats, and I do like the new name!
The new name demonstrates your sensitivity to the subtleties of perception in the marketplace. I think it will bolster your viability as a mentor and adviser. Congrats!
I must be one of the few that got it in the first place, and when you have designers like Dries van Noten and Hella Jongerius applying the term to thier work I never assume it means hobby.
Im English so its possible the meaning is different across the atlantic.
If you called it “Elephant Therapy” I would still read it, because to quote Tony the Tiger, your content is grrrrreat!!!
Great decision… just goes to show what a wise business woman you are, which is why I and many others look up to you.
