when will you carve out time for your business?

Today’s video asks a really crucial question:

Are you making time for your business, or just making excuses?

Some of you watching the video are probably wondering, “yes, but HOW do I make time?”

There is no magic formula or secret trick. Successful people are successful because they just do. They make it happen.

It all starts with putting your foot down (to your friends, your family, and yes, yourself) and saying, “No thanks. I’m working on rocking my biz today!”

And remember, it’s ok if that “No thanks” needs to be a much firmer “NO!” The only way to make your business happen is to say no to something else (TV, parties, making dinner, cleaning the house, etc.) and saying yes to getting the work done!

PS. This video isn’t just for people trying to get their business off the ground. For you full-timers watching, how many projects do you have only in idea stage until you “find the time” to achieve them? Whether it’s designing your new line, or making a major marketing push, stop making excuses and start taking action!

  1. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day. It’s all about how we prioritize that time. My husband and I used to have a debate before we got married about getting stuff planned for the wedding. He would say, “I just don’t have enough time to get all this done right now.” I would respond with, “No, you aren’t MAKING the time to get it all done right now.” And I’m guilty of having his mentality in the past too. I make time to lay in bed for a half hour after my alarm goes off. I make time to sit down and watch tv. I make time to run my business, check things off my to-do list. It’s a choice to prioritize what I do, and that’s the same story for everyone else. Thanks for the video- I hope it hits home for other folks as well!

  2. Hi there! I tried to sign up for “The beat of crafting an MBA” and got an error message:(

  3. Hi Megan,
Another great post. It’s so true what you said. I have a full time 40 hour a week job and everynight I work on my “other” job. I don’t have kids but it rings so true. I would love to do something else once in awhile but I can’t let me customers down or myself. I am in it for the long term so I stay committed.

  4. What a great pep talk! I really have to send it to my sister, who writes only if she has time and energy after cleaning, cooking and laundry.

I’ve become very good at saying no to lots of things: cleaning (my husband and I clean when we have a little time); having coffee with friends at the corner café; I even try to schedule non-business appointments either in the very early morning before starting to work on my business, or very late in the afternoon. My ironing pile may be huge, but my business is moving forward!

  5. thank you-just signed up!

Thanks for such an informative talk, my issues are time management and procrastination, I have cut back to working part time so I can devote more time to my fledgling business, which I run from home, and I find my self easily distracted by the things that need doing there. I will follow your tips and see if I can improve my productivity. Thanks again.

  7. Thanks for the kick in the butt!! 🙂

  8. Great post! Last year we gave the television away… an excellent start.

I find that most of the activities I’m doing (like right now – surfing the net) are at least in some way linked to my business. I have a full time job – and my two businesses are like my kids. I come home and I take care of them!

  9. Another great post! Thanks Megan.
I’ve started to watch the videos while I’m either cooking or working, multi tasking is very helpful.

  12. This was amazing. I am a recently single mama of two… 5 and 2yrs old. I run my own bridal accessories business that is booming. It’s our only income and I have been in business since June. My struggle is finding time to fill orders now that we are also moving! It’s about sacrifice! If you love something you work at it!
