the old art world model might be dead, but that’s ok

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a video to my IGTV talking about a book that I had started and had to abandon halfway through. Watch the video below for my full take on the problems with The Death of the Artist and why I’m more than ready for a new model for the art world that takes in an expanded view of what art is and who makes it. (Note: there’s a solid amount of swearing in the video! What can I say, I was fired up.)

If you happened to check my stories yesterday, you’ll know that I was reading a book that made me so angry I ended up writing “fuck you” and “elitist prick” in the margins, before giving up entirely. That book was The Death of the Artist, and it made me so angry I had to make a rant video about it. Fair warning, I swear A LOT in this one. It’s not all bad though. I also share a book I read and loved last week called Sensuous Knowledge by Minna Salami and I talk about how my class Sell Without Shame is helping to reframe our understanding of the value of art.
