I’ve been running my business online for a long time (I started a blog in 2006 and started selling on Etsy in 2007) and over the years I’ve seen a lot of marketing fads come and go. Social media platforms shift and change, and algorithms make it hard to reach your customers.
But nothing has been as consistent in my business as email marketing, which is why I’m so passionate about teaching it to artists and makers.
When it comes to the ways you market and grow your business, I firmly believe you have lots of choices. You can be on social media, or not. You can focus on certain platforms and ignore others. You can sell your products to stores or sell directly to the end customer at retail shows. (Or do both. Or neither!) You can pitch the press or work with influencers. You get to pick and choose what works best for you and your business.
But in all my years coaching artists and makers, there’s always been one non-negotiable, and that’s email marketing.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more essential to the health and growth of your business than your email list. I know that seems pretty extreme, but I promise it’s true.
Your email list is your opportunity for direct access to your customers. It’s a chance to cultivate and connect with your biggest fans. And unlike social media, it’s an audience you own.
I’m so passionate about emailing marketing for artists and makers that I’ve literally written a book about it!
My newest book, The Artists & Profit Makers Guide to Email Marketing, is available now!
Not only does this book share a simple system for consistently connecting with your audience through email but it dispels the misconceptions and mindset stuff that keeps you from connecting to your audience in the first place!
And not to brag, but for a book about email marketing, it’s also an easy and at times entertaining read. (I know, I know, that’s saying a lot for a book about email marketing, but to paraphrase one of my writing heroes, William Zinsser, any subject can be made accessible through good writing!)
The Artists & Profit Makers Guide to Email Marketing is available now in paperback, digital, and audiobook editions.
